Kasargod, Mar 25: The investigating team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Thursday March 24, arrested four policemen including a deputy superintendent of police (DySP), relating to a case of custodial death in lock up that occurred at Puthur Palakkad last year. The death had occurred at Palakkad North police station on March 23, 2010.
DySP, K Ramachandran, sub-inspectors, T N Unnikrishnan and C V Ramesh, in addition to traffic constable, A C Shyamprasad, were held in this connection.
Samapat (26) was the main accused in a case of entering the house of Sheela (47), wife of A Jayakrishnan from Puthur Sayujya, and murdering her, had died in the lock up. Later investigations had showed that the accused died during police custody because of torture.
The court, which considered a petition filed by Sampat’s brother, had ordered transfer of the case to CBI on May 25 last year. The court had dismissed an objection filed by the state government against this order. National Human Rights Commission had also pulled up Palakkad district collector for not properly handling the case and filing reports sought by it.
