Udupi, Mar 11: The postgraduate department of social work, Milagres College, Kallianpur in collaboration with Divya Kripa Kendra, Taluk Panchayat, Education Centre, Molakalmuru and Gram Panchayat, Ashok Siddapur, Chithradurga organised a rural exposure camp at Siddapur Village, Chithradurga, recently                                                                                                                                        .

Assistant Professors Roshan Monteiro and Sr Lilly Pushapa accompanied 37 1st year students of social work in the rural exposure camp.
 
The aim of the camp was to sensitize the students about the rural community. Te students also conducted a study on socio-economic, political and cultural condition of the rural community and applied the social work theory and methods to practise.

The exposure also included community visits, community survey, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), cultural programme and awareness programme through mime shows.

In addition there was career guidance programme to school children, interaction with local officials, organisations, youths, elders, children and talks by the local resource persons.

    I do agree with Fr Vincent, that the students have indeed developed a sensitivity with their fellow citizens. The experince that they shared with us refelected 100% involvement. I wish to congratulate all the students and teachers for such a  camp.

    Respected Dept. head, and lecturers, it was indeed to see the social work students doing something to the needy and gaining practical knowledge about the theory studied in the class rooms. Such camps really enrich the students with practical out look. congratulations to the Principal Fr. Fred Mascurenhas...for having allowing and encouraging the students for such rich academic activity...
