Mangaluru: St Aloysius BEd college observes world environment day

Mangaluru, Jun 12: St Aloysius B Ed College, a leading institute of teacher education, observed the World Environment Day here to raise global awareness to take positive environmental actions to protect nature and the planet earth. The theme of the celebration was ‘ONLY ONE EARTH; CLEANER, GREENER.’

Jeeth Milan Roche, Activist-National Environment Care Foundation (NCEF) was the chief guest. Addressing the audience, the chief guest said, “Human life can be happy if he links his life with nature. Man has broken the relationship with the nature by constant exploitation of earth. As human beings, we have to play a very important role in the well-being of every life possible on this earth. It is man’s duty to preserve and keep everything in check. 

It is easy to advocate for a greener environment and conservation of nature, but difficult to love the nature unconditionally.” The chief guest asked the audience, has the environment day celebration increased green cover on earth or reduced pollution, carbon print, water and soil pollution or improved human health? Man has destroyed sixty percent of forest. Man can do nothing to save the environment. The various developmental activities and use and throw cluture deplete the quality of nature every day. The best contribution man can do to save earth is to love the nature-he added.

Guests of honour, Tunnel man Amai Mahalinga Naik, Padmashree Awardee and Senior Environmentalist  Krishnappa P Mangaluru were felicitated during the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishnappa P said, “World Environment Day reminds us to strengthen the world and ensure that nature is to be preserved at all costs. This day is an opportunity to know the serious harms that we cause to our environment. Industries, factories and vehicles are contributing largely to pollution. They are deteriorating the quality of air that we breathe and the water we consume. This day helps us is to encourage the public from different societies and communities to take a decision to love the environment.”

Dr Farita Viegas, principal, appreciated tremendous works made by the chief guest and the guests of honour to conserve the nature. She urged the students to follow some rules for better and cleaner environment.

The chief guest honoured the winners of the competitions, wealth out of waste, quiz, best photography, best reel, survey on environmental issues and planting saplings, which were conducted prior to the environment day celebration.

The environment day teams, namely, blissful green, fierce climate, Mother Nature, eco sunshine, grow green, green life and eco topia performed a five-element dance and a mime on the theme mother earth.

Sumithra delivered the vote of thanks. Sudheer and Catherine compered the programme. Mrs Sandhya, staff in-charge, organised the programme.
