Udupi, Mar 7: A mega convention of Garodis in Tulunnadu apart from nemotsava of daivas will be held on March 7 and 8 at Tingale Sri Brahma Baidarkala Garody.
As part of ‘Gramotsava’ programme scheduled for the first day, a number of competitions for students of schools and colleges, apart from the general public will be conducted, and prizes will be distributed. In the evening, Brahma Baidarkala Hagaluseve and Nemotsava of Kodamanittaya Daivas will be organized.
The mega convention of Tulunadu Garodis will be inaugurated by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, at 10.00 am on March 8. The programme is being organized at Tingale Ravindra Heggade Hall. Bannanje Govindacharya will preside over the inaugural. Minister, Dr V S Acharya, MP, Sadanand Gowda, and a number of other dignitaries, will be participating.
In two separate sessions being held since 2.00 pm on that day, discussions about histories of different Garodis, traditions, cultural heritage, codes of conduct, future plans, will be held, and response from the general public, will be elicited.
The valedictory function will be held at 5 pm, under the presidentship of Bannanje Govindacharya. K S Nityanand of Vedashram, Chikmagalur, will be its president. Mangalore University registrar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, minister, Suresh Kumar, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and other dignitaries will participate. From 6.30 pm onwards, Yakshagana performance, cultural programmes by students of Moodbidri Alva’s educational institutions, followed by Nemotsava of Shivaraya and Brahma Baidarkala Daivas, will be conducted, informed convener of the convention, Vikramarjun Hegde. He said that about 10,000 people including representatives of 242 Garodis, Kola artistes of these Garodies, trustees, Guttinars, Darshan Patris etc will take part in the mega convention. He also revealed that special buses will be pressed into service from Hebri to Tingale every half an hour since 7.00 am.
