M'lore: Chariot to Spread Awareness at Vishwa Kannada Sammelan


Mangalore, Mar 6 (TOI): Preparations are afoot to take out Vishwa Kannada Theru (chariot), representing the cultural diversity of Dakshina Kannada in connection with Vishwa Kannada Sammelan at Belgaum from March 11. The theru carries the logo of the Sammelan in the front and various paintings depicting the cultural, historical specialities of the district on the remaining sides, CEO of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat P Shivashankar said.

The theru is being taken out to create awareness about the arts, culture and literature of the land among the masses. The theru will be formally flagged off at Kadri Park in the presence of dignitaries on March 7 at 9.30 am and traverse through places of historical and cultural importance in Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady taluks and reach Belgaum via Moodbidri on March 10, Shivashankar added.

Tahshildars of the respective taluks, along with local dignitaries will receive the theru at the respective taluk borders. K V Raman, stage director, Nithyanada Rao, secretary, Manikrishna Swami and Lakshmeesh will be the district representatives accompanying the theru. A delegation of 50-members from Dakshina Kannada district will be attending the sammelan.
