Manipal, Jun 4: As a part of the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation, to bring sports and education closer, the Centre for Pharmaceutical Skill Development, MAHE, organised a half-day workshop for physical education teachers in Udupi district. The workshops motto was to orient the teachers toward Doping and how the quality of life of athletes gets affected due to doping.
On the same occasion, a book entitled Hawk Eye of Doping was released by Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh, vice chancellor, MAHE. The book, authored by Dr Sivakumar and Dr Anup Naha from MAHE, along with Manipal alumnus Dr Punit Bansal and former Indian cricketer Robin Singh, aims to create mass public awareness for doping-free sports.
Dr Venkatesh further added that sports pharmacists creating awareness of doping at the grassroots level by educating the school physical education teachers will create a sustainable model for the quality life of athletes and will promote clean sports.
Around 100 teachers from Udupi Educational Block attended the workshop on June 04, 2022, at Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences with the theme Capacity Building of Physical Education Teachers to Improve the Quality of Life of Athletes: A Sports Pharmacist Perspective. Sessions on Doping rule violations, the role of nutritional supplements, lifestyle modifications of athletes to prevent Doping and first aid on the field were conducted as part of the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Mohammed Zuber, chief innovation officer, MAHE, in the presence of Dr Ashok Kamath, block education officer, Udupi.
