Puttur: Three Perish in Gruesome Accident at Ramakunja

Puttur, Mar 5: Three people travelling in a jeep died, while six others were injured, after a jeep ferrying villagers, and a tipper engaged for road works, got involved in a head-on collision near Kundaje in Ramakunja village near Kadaba on Friday March 4. The condition of two of the injured is stated to be serious.

Reportedly, the jeep driver was trying to overtake a borewell truck that was moving slowly, when it hit the tipper coming from the opposite direction. The tipper was carrying asphalt mixture for road repairs. Reckless driving on the part of the jeep driver is said to have caused the accident. The roof of the jeep was ripped off, and it jumped into the roadside drain, after the accident.

Santappa Kumbar (29), son of Sheenappa ;Kumbar from Kondadykoppa in Alankar village, who works in an oil mill, Kushalappa Gowda (39) from Alankar, son of Nadumane Padmaiah Gowda, working as mason, and Podiya alias Padmaiah Gowda (65), resident of Kindovu, Periadka, in Bajattur village, an agriculturist by profession, lost their lives in the accident. While Kushalappa Gowda died on the spot, Padmaiah Gowda died on way to hospital. Santappa lost his life while being treated in Welock Hospital, Mangalore.

The injured have been identified as Devuchandra Gowda (24), from Kanchana Agartimar in Bajattur village, who was driving the jeep, Pavitra (25) from Nadumane, Alankar village, Prasad (19), a native of Maruvantila Darkas in Perabe village, Honnappa Gowda (56) from Bantottu in Ramakunja village, working for KSRTC, Myalappa Moolya (54) from Nekkare in Alankar village and Guruvappa Mugera (38) from Bananti in Alankar village. The first three were admitted into a private hospital here, while the others are being treated in the government hospital in the town.

Additional superintendent of police (SP), K S Prabhakar, assistant SP, Rohini Katoch, assistant commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, circle inspector of police, B K Majiahah, and a number of people’s representatives visited the spot. A case was registered in Kadaba police station.
