Udupi, Feb 23: The district unit of the BJP has termed the protests undertaken by the Christians in the twin-districts against the report of Justice B K Somashekara Commission of inquiry, which probed church attacks in the state, as being not a good tradition. It observed that holding of protests for the simple reason that the report has not come in their favour, is not justifiable.
“Holding of protests against the report of an inquiry commission, just because of the fact that the report is not favourable to a particular party, are not marks of high principles and traditions. The Christian community, which had welcomed the interim report of the commission, is surprisingly opposing the final report,” it observed.
It said that the Christian organizations should not have accepted the creditability of the commission in the initial stage itself, if they had any misconceptions. Opposing the report just because it has not favoured them is not a good tradition, it observed.
It has also criticized the efforts being made by certain leaders to project the church attacks as the insult heaped on the entire community, and separate the Christians from the mainstream of the society.
