Mangalore, Feb 22: “The state government has been giving impetus to the empowerment of women by laying added emphasis on educating the girl child, and extending help to women to bag employment,” said minister, Krishna J Palemar. He was speaking after distributing certificates to the participants at the valedictory ceremony of a two-day state level workshop on women’s empowerment, organized at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar here, on Monday February 21.
The programme was organized by the state information department.
“The women today are more responsive, alert and aware than in the past. They are in the mainstream of the society. Still, it is regrettable that atrocities on women continue. The society should take up programmes to encourage the women, provide them a secure environment, apart from empowering them,” he urged.
In her address, Puttur assistant superintendent of police, Dr Rohini Katoch, noted the women face certain challenges, in spite of the opportunities they come across to bag high posts. “They should never lose heart. They should overcome innate fear or challenges with confidence. They should exhibit courage and confidence, without giving too much importance to criticisms. When I chose to become an IPS officer after getting a medical degree, I had faced lot of objections from my own people,” she explained.
