Kundapur: Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan Awards Conferred

Kundapur, Feb 21: The third annual Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan Awards, being given by Bhandarkar’s College Old Students Association, were conferred on two students on Sunday February 20. The awards were given away by Udupi deputy superintendent of police, Jayant V Shetty, at the annual day function of the association held at Bhandarkar’s College premises here.

“The examples of those who laid down their lives for the sake of the nation should always spur us to work for the country. The name of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who lost his life, fighting the terrorists who had attacked the country, is awe-inspiring,” Jayant Shetty said, after handing over the awards. He also hailed the association for instituting the awards in the name of Unnikrishnan. Shetty said that any one who works honestly and is service-minded, also serves the nation just like a soldier.

NCC cadets of the college, Bharat and Gajanan Shenoy, got the awards this year. Principal of the college, Prof Doma Chandrashekahr, presided. On this occasion, old students of the college with noteworthy achievements in their respective fields, Ganesh Devadiga Bangalore, Krishnanand Chatra Kundapur, and lecturer, Krishna Kanchan, were felicitated. Girish, president of Kundapur Photographers Association (social service) , and Satish Pai of Mooru Muttu Fame (theatre), were also honoured.

Assistant commissioner, B Sadashiva Prabhu, additional superintendent of police, Dr Ram Niwas Sepath, and several other dignitaries were present.

Secretary of Old Students Association, Arunachal Mayya, welcomed. President of the association, Rajesh K C, delivered introductory address. Lecturer, Rajendra, presented the programme.
