Muscast, Apr 26: Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP) led by Team-28 recently conducted an exciting 'MCCP Annual Badminton Tournament' at the Indian Social Club, Darsait.
The huge popularity of the game ensured a large gathering of members and their families creating an electrifying atmosphere. Young as well as elders of the community competed with each other with tremendous enthusiasm and vigour with a true spirit of sportsmanship.
The programme commenced at 9.15 am with registration and breakfast was provided for the participants and their families present at the venue. The matches commenced after the opening prayer and address by the spiritual director, Fr Marian Miranda. Donald Pinto, one of the strongest pillar and core committee member of the MCCP and his wife Eula Pinto, who is the longest member and ardent supporters for the MCCP, were the guest of honours.
Remembering Late Sharon Alva, internal auditor of the MCCP Team 28, who left to heavenly abode on March 12, 2022, a 2-minutes silence prayer was observed by all the assembled to pay the tribute to his great soul. His support to humanity and the whole community at large was gratefully remembered.
President Jessie Vivian Pereira and executive committee members, Tressy Menezes, Reshma D Costa, Merita D Souza, Silvia Fernandes, Praveen Serra, Vikas Fernandes, have put their tremendous effortsin making all the necessary arrangements at the venue. The cultural secretary Praveen Serra lead as master of ceremonies of the event.
The president, Jessie Vivian Pereira, Fr Marian Miranda, Eula Pinto and Donald Pinto played the opening strike, thereby announcing the opening of the much awaited tournament by the Mangalorean Community.
The tournament was divided into six categories, which included Under 13 doubles, under 18 Doubles, below 40 Men’s Doubles, below 40 Mixed Doubles, above 40 Men’s Doubles as well asabove 40 Women’s Doubles. The tournament saw an overwhelming response with a total 27 teams being registered for the tournament. The members were asked to pre-register themselves in the MCCP website which was over looked by the Sports Secretary Reshma D Costa to ensure all the participants’ names were well tabulated for quick and smooth conducting of the matches.
Dolly Gomes an ardent supporter of MCCP and great lover of sports took over the reins of conducting the matches, through drawing lots in each category first, followed by sequencing the matchesfor conducting the matches in a smooth manner in the two badminton courts availableat the venue.
Vinod Abraham and Gururaj B were the match referees.

Winners of the annual Crib competition held for the last 3 years were also felicitated during the event.
During the event, sumptuous lunch was provided for the participants and the attendees at the venue. Before the audience and participants dispersed for a lunch, Silvia Dias offered grace before meals.
The event was sponsored by Steevan Andrade. The juice, water, milk and laban drink was sponsored by Mazoon Dairy Company SAOC. MCCP thanked Dr Satish Nambiar and ISC team for providing the venue.
MCCP executive committee were indebted to the participants and sponsors for their wholehearted support for the tournament that made it a memorable one.
