Mangaluru, Apr 12: The Mount Carmel Central School in response to the call given by AIM, Niti Aayog organized the Atal Tinkering Lab Community Day on Tuesday, April 11 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar on April 14. The aim of the programme was to provide equal opportunities to the young minds of the neighbouring schools in the field of science and innovation.
Among the dignitaries present were Shaila K, the chief guest; Sr Carissima A C, school administrator and Swapna N and Angali, teachers of Sri Ramashrama English Medium School.
The programme began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Then, the dignitaries launched the programme was by broadcasting a video showcasing the various projects, activities and sessions that took place in the school’s Atal Lab in the past year.
Leena introduced the dignitaries. The chief guest Shaila K, the Atal Lab Coordinator and organizer of Science Olympiads in the school, in her message encouraged the students to actively participate in the sessions, and use the knowledge they gain to solve real world problems of the society using the technology.
Suman Lasrado, the ATL coordinator gave a general session on the things required for innovation and creation. The students were then divided into 6 groups each having their own mentors. They had three hands-on sessions, which were, Building Heron's Fountain, A Balloon Car and A Balloon Tower. At the end of the demonstrative session, the participants had to attempt a written quiz. This was followed by a talk on Artificial Intelligence. All the sessions were conducted by the students of Grade X and XII under the guidance of their mentors.
The day’s programme concluded with the valedictory ceremony presided over by Sr Melissa A C, principal, Sr Supreetha AC and Anjali.
The dignitaries honoured the winners of different sessions and quiz with prizes and certificates. The winners were:
Session I - ATAL Tornadoes
Session II and III - ATAL Warriors.
Quiz : 1st prize - ATAL Creators
2nd prize - ATAL Innovators
At the end, principal Sr Melissa appreciated the efforts of the ATL coordinators and mentor staff in organizing the day’s activities successfully along with the students of Grade IX, X and XII. Glenn DSilva proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was compered by teacher Leena Jose, and students Dhanvithraj Shetty and K. Keerthana.
The students of our neighbouring school, Sri Ramashrama English Medium School along with our own had a very fruitful day with a number of activities which enthused their spirit of curiosity, innovation and a desire to contribute positively for the good of the society.
