Bantwal, Feb 2: Although a written complaint was given against assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Amit Singh, to the district superintendent of police, Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, regarding the assault of Bantwal Urban Development Authority chairman (BUDA) on Monday night, and that the same was sent to the local police station, it is learnt that no case has so far been registered in the police station against him.
At the same time, Prabu claims that his ear continues to hurt because of the assault on him on January 31, and that he has been treated for the same in the government hospital here. He said he has decided to pursue the case legally, as the assault on him was unjustified. “I was not an accused. I do not know the purpose for the assault,” he claimed.
Prabhu, a senior BJP leader, is known well in the region, and as such, the people in general, think that the assault on him was purposeful. Prabhu gave a written complaint to the SP late night on Monday, in the presence of MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel. The MP said that the ASP concerned had also assaulted BJP activists in Puttur without reason, and that he had been asked to exercise restraint a number of times. He said that law is equal to everyone, and urged for steps against the officer as per legal provisions.
The activists were very angry at the assault on Prabhu. It was evidenced by the way the protestors were interrupting the addresses of B Nagaraj Shetty and Nalin Kumar Kateel to them on Monday night.
Various BJP leaders have condemned the said assault. District BJP president, Padmanabh Kottary, said on Tuesday he has been informed that the police officer has been transferred. As he is a gazetted officer, it is learnt that action against the ASP can be taken only by the IGP level officer.
