Mangalore: Lokayukta Laments Ill-affects of Corruption on Democracy

Mangalore, Jan 31:  Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde, noted that our country, which is considered to be a democracy, is not being run by genuinely elected people’s representatives. “Corruption has badly hurt the democratic principles. In such a scenario, the non-governmental activities being conducted by organizations like Rotary movement deserve to be lauded,” he added.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of the 39th Rotaract District Convention – 2011 held at Pinto Garden here on Sunday January 30. The programme was presided over by Kinnigoly Rotaract Club president, Prakash Acharya.

Comedy artistes from Bangalore, Kote Nagaraj and Mimicry Rajgopal, NRI entrepreneur, Rocky Pinto, and Satish Rao Kinnigoly, were felicitated by Justice Hegde on this occasion.

District Rotary governor-designate, Devadas Rai, Abhinandan Shetty of the District Awards Committee, speaker, Satish Rao, assistant governor, Ramesh Bhandary, and Kinnigoly Rotary president, Satishchandra Hegde, were present.
