Udupi: Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) holds 32nd Awards, annual day

Udupi, Mar 28: The 32nd  Awards & Annual Day of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal was held on Saturday 26, March 2022. The event included honoring of meritorious students of BSc, PBBSc, MSc, MPhil Nursing, Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and PhD and faculty members for their various achievements. Viola Josna Mathias, BSc Nursing batch of 2017-21 was awarded the best outgoing student.  

The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty and students alike. Evelyn P Kannan, Secretary-General, Trained Nurses Association of India, New Delhi was the chief guest for the ceremony and Dr Vincia Pandian, associate professor and assistant dean, Immersive learning and Digital innovations, John Hopkins School of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland, was the guest of honor. The event was presided over by Dr Venkatraya M Prabhu, Pro Vice-Chancellor Health Sciences, MAHE, Manipal.

Chief Guest Evelyn P Kannan, secretary-general, Trained Nurses Association of India, New Delhi said, “I am extremely pleased to be here on the occasion of MCON’s Annual Day. Excellence in education, excellence in practice and excellence in retention is very evident in the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Nursing is an important pillar of healthcare. A Nurse must be dedicated, nurture and change oneself to care for others. I advise the young generation to have a good attitude, aptitude and be committed to this noble profession that helps relieves the suffering of so many people around the world”

Guest of Honour Dr Vincia Pandian, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Immersive learning and Digital innovations, John Hopkins School of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland said “Effort, motivation, passion and perseverance are crucial in achieving one’s dreams. Students especially in Nursing should focus on both internal and external motivators to achieve their goals. I encourage the students to work hard, learn and achieve mastery. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way to achieve success”

Speaking at the event Dr Venkatraya M Prabhu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Health Sciences, MAHE, Manipal said “We at MAHE are very proud of Manipal College of Nursing for its excellence in research and teaching. MCON is a jewel in the crown of MAHE. The young professionals produced here are the ambassadors of the Nursing profession. The medical profession is based on ‘Cure Rarely, Comfort Mostly, Console Always’.  I encourage all the students to keep this legacy going by having a good Samaritan spirit. The Healthcare profession as a whole should strive to achieve Florence Nightingale’s vision for universal recognition of nurses”

Dr Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean and Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON, Manipal, welcomed the gathering and introduced both the chief guest and the guest of Honor. Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean, MCON, Manipal presented the Annual report of the college. Sheela Shetty, assistant professor and convener of the annual day program proposed the vote of thanks. Flavia Noronha, lecturer, compered the formal program. 

The formal function was followed by a captivating multicultural entertainment program by the students and faculty of the college.
