Mangaluru: Srinivas University organizes National Seminar on 'CSI-The Crux of Forensic science'

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Department of Forensic science and criminology, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University, in collaboration with Phoenix Screening Services, Bengaluru, organised one day National Seminar cum Workshop on 'CSI-The Crux of Forensic science' at SIMS & RC campus, Mukka on March 26. More than 300 delegates were present for the workshop. Dr Vijay Reddy, managing director, Phoenix Services Bengaluru, was the chief guest of the programme.

Eminent personalities of Srinivas University, such as chancellor, Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, president, A Shama Rao Foundation, pro chancellor Dr A Srinivas Rao, vice- president, A Shama Rao Foundation, Dr Anil Kumar, registrar, pro vice chancellor, Dr Sathya Sai Kumar, professor Devaseelan S, dean, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Dr Vrinda J Bhat, professor and head of department of forensic Medicine, SIMS&RC were present on the Dais and inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Chief guest of the programme Dr Vijay Reddy shared his valuable words on forensic security. Devaseelan S, dean of allied health science, explained about the importance of crime scene investigation and then Chancellor Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao and vice-chancellor, Dr A Srinivas Rao, Srinivas University, deliberated on the importance of such hands on workshop on crime scene investigation and that this discipline is the future of our younger generation. They also expressed their gratitude to Phoenix services for giving this opportunity to the forensic students. Pro vice chancellor, Dr Sathya Sai Kumar, promised to bring out a centre of excellence for forensic science under Srinivas University.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Chancellor Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao and he witnessed the exhibition and simulated crime scene.
Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Department of Forensic Science, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University and Phoenix Screening Services, Bengaluru.

Programme started at around 9.30 AM, there were around nine key speakers who have been explained about various topics related to forensic science.
Nine key speakers deliberated on various aspects of crime scene investigation .

Dr GS Venumadhav, from Dharwad, Dr P N Sandeeo from Thrissur, Glorita Fernandes, from Goa, Kajal Bansal, Bangalore University, Dr Anup A Kudtarkar, Phoenix Screening Services, Bengaluru, Litty Jose, Thrissur, Sashidar E S, Jain University, Bengaluru, Dr Ishwar Navalgund, Davangere University and Dr Vrinda J Bhat, SIMS&RC, Mukka.

In the afternoon session, there was a hands-on workshop for students on mock crime scene investigation, where the delegates got the exposure on evidence collection, crime scene management , reconstruction , sketching of crime scene and observe various types of crime scene investigation tools such as different types of light sources used in evidence examination, soil examination kit and fingerprint development kit.
Workshop was also streamed online for virtual delegates.
