Daijiworld Media Network – Bellary (SP)

Bellary, Jan 25: In a mysterious incident, currency notes of different denominations were found to have been burnt down near a channel behind Mahadeva Thatha’s temple in Allipur within the jurisdiction of the rural police station here, on Sunday January 23 morning.

A heap of partially burnt currency notes of of Rs 10, 50, 100 and 1,000 denominations, stored in three gunny bags, was found near the said channel. At the first, several children playing in the streets noticed smoke emanating from this spot. When they approached the spot, they found half-burnt currency notes scattered around the area. By then, almost all the notes had been charred. The total amount involved is said to be running into crores of rupees.

No one knows as to who owned these currency bags, where this cash were being transported, or who put them on fire. The locals said that the rural policemen rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. Police sources said that partially burnt currency notes were sent to forensic laboratory for testing.

District superintendent of police, Nagaraj, said that a case has been registered, and investigation is in progress. However, the policemen are reluctant to throw more light on the incident, it is learnt.

Cannot rule out the possibility of fake notes too included along with black money, which was found difficult to circulate in the market. Must wait to hear forensic report.

The person who burned the currency notes must have got some inside news about impending raids on his premises. Being Bellary a mining heaven, no doubt black currency will be abundant with the Barons there. I wish the forensic tests give some clue.

It is not clear the currency is genuine or fake. Some newspapers have reported that the currency stacked in gunny bags is over Rs. 4 crores. The owner from Bellary/Allipur area must have smelt Income Tax raid and decided to get rid of it. For him, even if it is genuine, could be a small amount.
