Riyadh, Mar 24: More than 100,000 users took the services of free trial phase of the Makkah Bus Project that was launched recently on routes 7, 7a, 12 and 6.
Technical test was conducted by the team of the project in order to match with the high standards of the requirement of the services. Residents and visitors of Makkah highly appreciated the new service and said that it is very convenient for them.
During the rush hour 40 buses were pressed into service every day, while the same numbers were kept on stand by to cater to a much larger passenger group in case of need.
The first trip was started at 4 am and the last tip was at 2 am. Totally 22 hours per day. The team that monitored the services included operational staff, mechanics, drivers and support team numbering 500.
In the next two months new routes will be introduced in Makkah so that the residents and visitors can reach educational, commercial and health centres.
The project, which is set to be completed in 2022, is supervised by the Royal commission of Makkah city and holy sites. It is one of the Saudi Vision 2030 programmes of Doyof Al Rahman.
