Kasargod, Jan 24: The Kerala policemen, who intercepted a car at Elapully near Palakkad, have recovered large quantities of explosives from the two occupants of the car. Both of them have been arrested.

Reportedly, these explosives were meant to be delivered to communally and politically sensitive regions in North Kerala, from Salem in Tamil Nadu. Those arrested have been identified as Shakti Kumar (30), and car driver, Vinod (23). 25,100 electric detonators, 19,300 normal detonators, and 5,437 metres of fuse wire, were confiscated from their possession. This consignment was not backed by any documentary proof. The policemen said that the above two persons had tried to sneak into North Kerala by hoodwinking the police officers at various check posts.

The car carrying explosives, which was moving at high speed, hit a motor bike at Elapally, but did not stop. As it gained speed further, the policemen gave it a hot chase, and stopped it. The policemen have now taken up detailed investigation into the incident.
