Udupi: Cash, Ornaments, Worth Four Lac Rupees Stolen

Udupi, Jan 24: Gold ornaments and cash, totally valued at around four lac rupees, were stolen by thieves from a house located at Mannampally near Perampally here. The incident occurred, when the incumbent of the house, Prof Narayan Shanbhogue, working as a professor in a college in Mangalore, had gone to his native place, Byndoor in Kundapur taluk.

Shanbhogue, who had left for Byndoor on Saturday, returned home on Sunday evening. On his arrival, he found that the thieves had targetted the house during his absence. No one was at home when the theft occurred, it is gathered.

The thieves are found to have broken open the lock of the front door. Apart from gold ornaments weighing 179 grams, they have taken away Rs 25,000 in cash. Services of sniffer dogs and finger print experts were summoned.

District superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, deputy superintendent of police, Jayant Shetty, and Manipal circle inspector, H D Kulkarni, visited the spot.
