Mangalore, Jan 24: In an accident that occurred at the service bus stand here on Sunday January 23, a boy named Madan Sagar (6), son of Gunasagar and Amuda couple from the Labour Colony in Shaktinagar in the city, lost his life. Meghraj (7), nephew of Gunasagar, who was critically injured in the accident, is being treated in Wenlock Hospital here.
Madan Sagar was a first standard student of Nalyapadav government school in Shaktinagar. Meghraj is a second standard student of a school in Udupi.
Gunasagar had arrived at the bus stand for sending Meghraj and niece, Jyoti, to Udupi by bus, on Sunday afternoon. The two children, who got down from the two-wheeler Gunasagar was riding, were instantly hit by a private bus plying between the city and Shimoga. Madan Sagar, who got crushed under the front wheel of the bus, lost his life on the spot, while Meghraj sustained serious injuries.
Madan Sagar was the only son of the above couple’s three children. Meghraj has no parents, as his father died two years ago, and his mother lost her life last year.
The driver of the bus, who reportedly is a resident of Shimoga, escaped from the scene. The concerned failed to even provide his proper name. The bus has been seized by the policemen. A case was registered in traffic west police station here. Police inspector ,Manjunath Shetty has been investigating.
