Margao, Jan 21: Self help groups, which have been formed in the state in large numbers, will get facility to display and sell their products through the Mall soon. State Chief Minister (CM), Digambar Kamat, announced on Thursday January 20, that the government proposes to build a separate mall in the city, exclusively for the use of Self Help Groups, soon.
The CM was speaking after participating as the chief guest, in a function organized here for the distribution of saris and dress materials under the ‘Vastra Bhet’ scheme of the government, and cheques under the ‘Kaniyadan’ scheme. Minister for women and child development, Ravi Naik, secretary, B P Rao, and chairperson of Goa State Social Welfare Board, Manisha Naik, were also present at the said function organized at Ravindra Bhavan.
The CM and the minister for women and child development, disbursed financial assistance amounting to Rs. 15,000/- each to 79 persons from economically weaker sections on the occasion, towards expenses connected with the marriages of their daughters. Saris and dress materials were handed over to 1,089 families from below poverty line.
Speaking further, Kamat said that the benefits of the government’s welfare schemes are meant for helping the people to achieve progress in life, irrespective of caste, creed and party affiliations. The government has also provided financial assistance to vegetable and flower vendors, apart from owners of kiosks from all over Goa, with the specific objective of helping the weaker sections to improve their living conditions, he added.
The CM advised the elected representatives to help the government in its efforts to reach out to the people, and in ensuring that the benefits of the schemes actually reach the grass root level.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Naik said that the women have now been occupying high positions in social, economic, and political fields. Women are partners of progress and development of the state, he added.
