Mangalore, Jan 14: A function is being organized by Karnataka Tulu Academy at its premises in Lalbagh here on Saturday January 15 at 4 pm, for inaugurating its website, and for releasing three works.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, will inaugurate the website. Deputy speaker of the state assembly, N Yogish Bhat, will preside over the function. City mayor, Rajani Dugganna, will release the works. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, will participate as chief guest, said Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, president of the Academy, at a press conference held here on Thursday January 13.
“The website of the academy will have information about the culture of Tulunadu, language and colloquial usage in the region apart from literature, art etc., in the form of articles authored by experts in the respective fields. In addition, it will also provide details of activities conducted by the academy since its inception till now,” Paltady explained.
The works to be released on the occasion are, folklore literature that has passed over generations orally, provided by Banglegudde Sannakka, and edited by Dr Poovappa Kaniyoor, ‘Bharata Kavyo Pasadi Bhaga – 2’, translated by Dr Kamalaksha K, and ‘Tuluva Srikrishnadevaraya’, edited by Dr Duggappa Kajekar, he said. He also explained that the academy has granted research fellowships to five persons in different fields. These fellowships, amounting to one lac rupees, are given for a term of one year, he stated. Paltady added that Tulu language has already been introduced in the sixth standard, and that during the next academic year, the language will be introduced for sixth, seventh and eighth standards too.
Achar revealed that the academy will soon begin classes for those interested in learning Tulu and Kannada, and asked interested candidates to register their names at the academy office before January 31, 2011.
Academy members, Dr Duggappa Kajekar, Yogish Kanchan, and Ratnavati Baikady, were present at the press conference.
