Udupi, Jan 13: "Although fire is essential for daily living, playing unnecessarily with fire is not justified," said Sadashiv Shettigar, chief, town fire brigade.
Shettigar was speaking at the live demonstration of tackling fire held at Mahadevi High School, Kaup, near here on Thursday January 13. It was organized under the aegis of Rotary Club, Kaup, and Mahadevi School Eco Club.
"The fire brigade gets several calls about fire mishaps chiefly due to oil and gas leaks from bullet tankers, electrical fire, and metals melting in major fires, and the fire brigade swiftly contains the fire that turns the material to ashes," he said.
Shekar Salian, deputy chairman, Kaup Gramoddar Sangh, presided over the programme.
Kaup Vidhyaniketan Group of education institutions administrator Professor V K Udyavar, Kaup Rotary Club president Ananta Padiyar, town fire brigade deputy chief Praveen Kumar, student representative Prateeksha, and Laxman Suvarna Kaup were present on the dais.
Kaup Mahadevi High School headmaster Mohan Suvarna welcomed the gathering. Eco Club president Gopal Naik compered the programme and secretary Laxman Poojary proposed the vote of thanks.
