Mangalore, Dec 23: Diplomacy and multilateralism have triumphed, as many said, but where has that left the task of combating climate change? Global Warming is a much discussed topic today among Nations world over, in our own country and our own state and very little is done to solve its hazardous problems. 

Samanvaya Mangalore is taking keen interest in spreading awareness of Global Warming among the educated people making them messengers of the cause to the lesser knowledgeable. With this aim, Samanvaya conducted yet another daylong seminar on Global Warming organized by Sisters of Charity Provincialate, Belvedere, recently at Provincial House, Belvedere to enlighten its hazards to participants.

"A comprehensive plan and serious action to cut greenhouse gas emissions alone can save our planet" said Dr Ronald Cutinha, Director of Samanvaya during his address on Global Warming.

Dr Cutinha said that the present climatic condition is manmade and the greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, methane, etc absorb and retain the heat near
the surface of the earth. At the same time high carbon dioxide concentration ring in the air rebounds the heat reflected from the earth causing global warming. Discouraging deforestation, encouraging
forestation, making less use of fossil fuels and depending more on alternate energy sources, such as solar, atomic, electric, wind and hydro, one can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and protect our
planet from destruction, he said. 

The power point presentation projected on the screen and the film on Global Warming made the learning easy.

Sr Irene Jane D'souza, Provincial Superior was instrumental in organizing this seminar. Sr Emma Joseph welcomed the gathering and Sr Irene D'silva proposed the vote of thanks. There were about 50 sister
superiors in attendance for the seminar.
