Udupi, Dec 21: Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Society (SDMES) and Traditional Medicinal Research Centre of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Ayurveda College, Udyavar, near here conferred 'Janapada Vaidya Siri’ Award to the veteran traditional medicinal practitioner Vaidyashri Guru Shantappa Sannabasappa Savanoor here on Tuesday December 21.
Professor Dr Radhakrishna Aithal, assistant director of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) conferred the award during the annual day celebration of SDM Ayurveda College, which was held at Matrusri Ratnamma Memorial Golden Jubilee auditorium here in the morning.
SDM Ayurveda College principal V N Prasad presided.
Dr K R Ramachandra, RBI officer Hassan, AJFFLCCI trustee B T Pai, Syndicate Bank assistant general manager Jyothi N Shenoy and student union chief secretary Harikrishna were present on the dais.
About Vaidyashree Guru Shantappa Sannabasappa
He has been a traditional medicinal practitioner residing in Kundagola taluk of Dharwad district. He inherited the profession from his father, both of them experimented with their knowledge of medicine to cure many ailing people in their ancestral village.
Both of them were known to treat and cure the joint pains and bone related ailments. The award was conferred to Shantappa Sannabasappa in recognition of his great contributions in his respective field and it comprised of Rs 10,000 and a citation.
Harikrishna welcomed the gathering. Sridhar Bayari proposed the vote of thanks. Shilpa and Reshma Pai compered the programme.
