Mangaluru, Dec 26: It is December and the festive ambience of Christmas is something that all look forward to. There is something mystical about this time of the year and magic was in the air at St Aloysius PU campus. The college was all decked up to celebrate the joy of the season and the staff of SAPUC spent some time together with the management to soak in the spirit of Christmas.
The event began with a melodious prayer song by the Staff choir followed by heartwarming energetic welcome dance. Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, addressed the staff and delivered a powerful Christmas message. He conveyed the sentiment of Christmas through a story about a little girl whose father was away at war and could only send her gifts every Christmas. The girl would not be satisfied with any gift as she only desired the gift of her father's presence and finally when the girl was about to lose all hope, one Christmas her father came home and she had heavenly experience. Fr Melwin felt that Christmas is a time when one experiences God and divinity and everyone encounters this when one is low and the future looks bleak. He wished everyone to draw hope from this divine day and to look forward with optimism and positivity.
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” The principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, campus minister, Fr Sujay Daniel SJ, and the finance officer, Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ joined Fr Melwin Pinto SJ to enthrall the audience by rendering some heartwarming multilingual Christmas carols.
Dr Mona Mendonca lightened up the atmosphere by making the faculty to groove to a popular Spanish number and conducting lively spot games.The entertaining team also lit up the atmosphere by rocking to a few racy numbers.The staff choir also filled in by singing some melodious Carols. Mohanraj and team brought in the mood of Christmas by recreating the magical birth of Jesus Christ through a spectacular dance drama.
Fr Pradeep Sequiera, finance officer concluded by expressing joy at how this Christmas has brought together all the staff as one and brought down curtains to the memorable programme by offering grace before the sumptuous Christmas meal.
A departwise door deck competition was also conducted on the sidelines.The colorful and creative presentations showcased by the faculty if each department were a feast to the eyes. The department of Biology emerged as the winners while the Computer Science department were the runners up. Elizabeth compered the programme. Nancy Dias and Dr Gladwin Fernandes, conveners of the programme proposed the vote of thanks.
