Mangaluru, Dec 12: Anti Drug Addiction Cell of University Evening College, Mangaluru conducted a programme on Drug Addiction- Effects, Prevention and Aawareness on December 11, 2021.
Resourse person Dr Srinivas Bhat Undaru, department of Psychiatry, K S Hegde hospital, Deralakatte, Mangaluru spoke about drug addiction, its consequence and solution. He said that drug addiction is deep-rooted and each one’s duty to eradicate and make our society free from drugs. Initially they give free drugs, later they make the person sell drugs for his or her need. Once trapped, it is difficult to come out of the trap.
If you are fine, your mind is fine. Your body is fine. You will be able to follow your dreams. Drug addiction has spread to the rich and poor without any class or religion. One might think happiness is from drugs, which is wrong. Happiness can be gained from many good ways like hardwork. Donot go for instance happiness, instead delay your gratification. If your goal is for three years make it five years for higher studies and competitive examination. Inspire from role models like teachers, parents, elders and people who are good examples to the society.
If any person is offering any drug, say no straight by looking into their eyes and face. If there is pressure, think he/her as an enemy and leave the place. Inform the police force. As an individual donot entertain, which should become a duty of every citizen. Let us take the burden of eradicating this dirt as an individual which will be a boon to our government.
Another Resourse person Nagaraj S Shikaripura, PSI of Bunder Police Station, Mangaluru spoke about the consequences of drug addiction. Initailly a so called friends will motivate us to take drugs and then the person who has taken drugs will motivate oneself and gets addicted to drugs. First and foremost one should inform the police whenever we get a clue of drug sellers and consumers, which should be done as a duty. Drug addiction is a burning issue from the age of 13 to an adult. Intake of drugs or selling is a serious crime which can be punished according to different Acts of the law. While consuming it might give an instant pleasure, but the consequences are deadly and one might end up in prison for lifelong. An individual is destroyed for life giving pain to his/her near and dear ones. Be careful while using social media, because your complete data may leaked to an unknown dangerous person. The speaker has advised that students should inculcate the habit of reading books which inspire and must spend their fruitful time in the library.
Dr Subhashini Srivatsa, the principal of the college said that one should go for natural therapies like yoga and nature treatments, where one can evolve as beautiful and fresh instead of going for instant pleasures like drugs and alcohol.
On this occasion the students took an oath under the guidance of Dr Devadas Pai against drug addiction. Dr Jagadish B, the student welfare officer and Dr Madhava M K, assistat director of the students union were present on the Sstage. The programme was attended by the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Ganesh welcomed the gathering, Suresh Rao compered the programme and the vote of thanks was given by Deeksha.
