Udupi, Dec 6: The department of Computer Science & Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MAHE inaugurated its 5-Day Faculty Developmental Programme (FDP) on blockchain technology and its applications virtually, commencing from December 6 to 10. The programme is sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE-ATAL), New Delhi. Around 166 participants from all around the country have enrolled on this programme.
Dr Rajkumar Buyya, Professor at the School of Computing and Information Science, Melbourne, Australia, was invited as the chief guest for the inaugural programme.
Speaking about the event Cdr (Dr) Anil Rana, director, Manipal Institute of Technology, said, “Blockchain is modern and relevant technology. We are glad to inaugurate this programme on Blockchain Technology which is gaining a lot of attention and prominence. This emerging technology has several advantages and is user-friendly. We hope that the programme helps the faculty to enhance their knowledge regarding the application of Blockchain Technology. We thank AICTE-ATAL for their immense contribution to this programme.”
Dr Harish Sahu, DRDO, New Delhi, also the reviewer of the Faculty Development Programme, was present at the event. After welcoming the gathering, the speakers gave an overview of FDP and its theme, followed by a discussion on the utility of Blockchain technology. The chief guest mentioned the importance of applications of blockchain, which are numerous. He also focused on some trusted sites where security is needed, and blockchain is a must. Healthcare, IOT, Bitcoins are some of the areas where blockchain is useful.
Towards the end of the event, Dr Srikanth Prabhu, associate professor (Senior Scale), department of Computer Science & Engineering, who served as the master of ceremony, presented a vote of thanks to the speakers, faculty and the esteemed chief guest.
The event was successfully co-ordinated by Dr Narendra V G, associate professor (Senior Scale), department of Computer Science & Engineering and Dr Krishnamoorthi Makkithaya, professor, department of Computer Science & Engineering.
The inaugural ceremony ended on a positive note, hoping for the success of the Faculty Developmental Programme in catering relevant information and spreading awareness.
