Mangaluru: St Agnes School Bendur organizes two-day session on 'Learning Styles'

Mangaluru, Nov 17: A two-day session on Learning Styles was organised at St Agnes School Bendur Mangaluru on November 11 and 12 in Block II Hall from 10.00 am to 2.30 pm. Shycil Mathew the assistant professor of department of Community Health and Nursing at Yenepoya Nursing college Mangaluru was the resource person of this session.

The participants were the students from grade V to X. The first day session was held for grade VIII to X and on the second day for grade V to VII. The session began with grade VIII students leading into prayer and formally welcoming the speaker and the audience. A separate session was held to each grade on both days. At the end of the session students proposed the vote of thanks with students thanking the speaker for the teaching something new and helpful for their learning.

The key highlights of the session were learning takes place always. There are two types of approaches towards learning that is Deep Approach and Surface Approach. The key factor of identifying your learning style is learning preference which is most important.

The speaker highlighted Neil Fleming’s VARK model -Visual that is observing, Auditory is hearing, Kinesthetic / Tactile- learning by doing and Reading and writing. Each learning style has its own importance and benefits. It was methodically explained by the speaker. At the end the tips on how to remember what you have studied was given. Writing a short summary, say out loud what you want to remember, take notes by hand, test yourself etc. Indeed, a fruitful session.

The management, the administrator, principal and the staff are grateful for creating such a wonderful opportunity to the students towards learning in the new norm. Forever learning is the essence of a true student to become a great thinker.
