Udupi, Nov 3: Bishop of Udupi Gerald Isaac Lobo, in his Deepvali message said that every human being is a light and purpose of his/her life is to enlighten the lives of others.
In a release he said, “Deepavali, the feast which brightens and deepens human relationships, has arrived again! As we are being liberated from the fear of Covid, the feast lights the lamp of hope. Every human being is, indeed, a light. The purpose of his/her life is to enlighten the lives of others. While reflecting on the victory of good over evil, all celebrate and enjoy this feast with distribution of sweets. The celebration calls for friendship, cordiality and fraternity in the minds and hearts of all. Thus, Deepavali comprises liberation, celebration and fraternity. The feast celebrates the victory of good over evil. When the good stands united in action, the effect of evil decreases. Everyone needs to get rid of one’s evil and destructive tendencies and establish one’s divine self. One’s spiritual light must shine, destroying evil and pride. Like the lamp which burns and consumes itself in order to give light to others, one must forget one’s self and help one’s needy brethren. This is the inspiration provided by Deepavali.
“No one lights a lamp and keeps it under a bushel or a cot. It is kept on a lamp-stand. Then, everything becomes visible.” Through our lamps of good works, we must share our internal light and become lamp-posts to others. Others have to march forward in our light.
“I offer my cordial greetings to all my fellow-citizens. May God, the source of all light, enlighten our hearts, homes and minds, and grant us peace and prosperity,” the bishop said in the release.
