Mangaluru, Oct 29: The personnel of the town police station here, after finding that some boats were engaged in illegal sand extraction within the jurisdiction of Faisal Nagar area in the city, took into possession 11 boats.
The district administration has not yet issued permits to undertake sand mining and transport the same from the coastal regulatory zones here. Still, some people who are trying to encash the market demand for sand, have been extracting sand and transporting it. Based on complaints, the police are launching operations against them.
Deputy commissioner of the city law and order police division, Hariram Shankar and staff of Kankanady town police station conducted the raid. On this occasion, 11 boats were found to be engaged in sand mining. The assets have been handed over to the mines and geology department officials for further action.
