Karkala, Oct 17: The policemen here have succeeded in closing a 47-year-old criminal case of fraud registered against a person of Kerala origin, after coming to know that he had died last year.
Gopal from Kannur district in Kerala, who had married a lady named Baby from Baradi in Kantavar village, had settled down here. He was doing centring work. A case of fraud had been registered against him in 1963, alleging that he had stolen the centring equipments relating to road works, and fled. Since the local court issued an arrest warrant against him under the Criminal Procedure Code, the policemen failed to find him, in spite of repeated efforts.
In the recent past, the policemen, who came in contact with the wife of Gopal, learnt that he had died in Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore, last year due to some ailment. The policemen, who collected the death certificate, submitted it in the court, and heaved a sigh of relief for having been able to close a long-pending case.
