Riyadh, Sep 24: Late Thursday, when the kingdom was celebrating its 91st National day, Iran- backed Houthi terrorists launched five armed drones towards Saudi Arabia. State Media Al- Ekhbariya TV and Saudi Press Agency reported.
The joint forces command of the coalition supporting Yemen’s legitimate government was quoted saying, "The weaponized drones, which came in one after the other, was intercepted and destroyed by coalition air defences before they could do any harm.”
The SPA report said, “The Joint Forces Command affirmed that all necessary operational measures are taken to protect the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its citizens and residents in order to neutralize and destroy these hostile cross-border attacks.”
Three drones were launched toward the Southern Western Saudi city of Khamis Mushayt, on Wednesday by Houthi terrorists, all of which were shot down. Coalition forces, on Monday destroyed two bomb laden boats which the Houthis were going to use in Yemen’s north western port city of Hodeidah.
The Houthis have been emboldened, with the US government lifting their designation as a global terrorist organization. February last year, Washington removed the designation in a policy shift by the Biden administration, hoping to get the Houthis back to the negotiation table.
However, the Houthis have refused to respond positively to the UN brokered peace talks.
