Bengaluru, Sep 22: Transport minister, B Sriramulu, stated that an order has been issued to reinstate into service those transport workers who were dismissed earlier this year.
Speaking to media persons, he said that the issue was discussed with the transport union leaders. "They had placed 12 demands before the government. We have brought these to the attention of the chief minister. We have taken these steps to make sure that there should not be any problems in the transport department," he explained.
In the meeting the minister had with the employees, a decision to take back 4,200 dismissed employees was taken. The government has issued an order accordingly.
Sriramulu said that the employees had also demanded to address wage disparity and that he plans to discuss this point with the chief minister. "As their main demand was to absorb 4,200 dismissed employees, we have given preference to this issue," he stated. These 4,200 had taken part in the strike which the transport workers undertook in April, in support of their demand for various facilities.
