Bangalore : Yeddy Wins Trust Vote Again

Bangalore, Oct 14: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa won the floor test in the Karnataka Assembly for the second time in three days by 106 votes against 100 from the combined Congress and JD(S) opposition members on Thursday.
While BJP member from Lingsugur Manappa Vajjal abstained, JD(S) member from Channapatna M C Ashwath also abstained.
The strength of the 225 member assembly, including nominated member and speaker, had been reduced by 16 members following the disqualification of 11 BJP members and 5 Independents. The absence of 2 members meant the strength of the House had been reduced to 206.
State Assembly Speaker Rejects Oppn Plea for Postponing Session
Bangalore, Oct 14 (PTI): Karnataka Legislative Assembly today rejected plea by Opposition Congress for postponing the session convened to take up the motion of confidence by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and went ahead with voting on it.
"This session has been specifically convened on the direction of the Governor to conduct the trust vote and it cannot be postponed," Speaker K G Bopaiah declared when opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah demanded postponing of the motion till the High Court pronounced its verdict on a batch of petitions filed by 16 MLAs challenging their disqualification.
Yeddyurappa later moved a one-line motion -- "This House expresses confidence in the government led by B S Yeddyurappa".
The Speaker put the motion to vote and all the BJP members supported it by voice vote and Siddaramaiah demanded a division of votes, which was accepted.
State Assembly Adjourns Sine Die
Bangalore, Oct 14 (PTI): Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah today adjourned the House sine die after conducting the floor test for the second time in a week in which the BJP government won the trust vote by a majority of six votes.
The motion moved by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa secured the support of 106 MLAs and was opposed by 100 MLAs. The Yeddyurappa government has won the motion of confidence, Bopaiah announced.
