Mangaluru, Sep 16: Due to heavy rains experienced in the region for the last some days, a concrete protective wall standing at Padalpady in Pajeeru village near Ullal crashed to the ground. As a result a farm suffered heavy damages and loss of ten lac rupees has been estimated. Because of this incident, a house also is in peril.
The concrete protective wall standing in front of the house of the late Monappa Poojary from Padalpady collapsed. Over 30 areca nut and coconut trees fell as a result. The concrete wall which fell now had been built seven years back, duly supported by concrete pillars.
The incident gave rise to a crack in the courtyard of the said house. As the children who were playing in the courtyard had returned home earlier, no one faced any danger. As nearly half of the courtyard too suffered a landslide with the fall of the wall, the house is in danger.
It is said that the incident was caused because of the land levelling work currently under way over a hillock in front of Monappa Poojary's house. Rainwater now flows by the side of this house, and this is the root cause for the problem, it is said. The locals have already complained to the officials about this problem.
