St Agnes College Organises Campaign on Solid Waste Management

Mangalore, Oct 11: The department of Commerce of St Agnes College, organised a Community Awareness Campaign on Solid Waste Management on Monday Oct 11.

Max Rasquinha, distinguished toastmaster and social entrepreneur, Houston, USA who was the chief guest of the programme said that conservation of nature should be a part of our life. He asked everyone to be aware of proper methods of waste management in the country.

India is blessed with plenty of natural wealth and the country is indeed marching ahead to become a superpower, he said, and added that he perceived that the future war could be regarding search for water within the planet unless the concept of waste management is practiced.

The programme was initiated with an exquisite Chinese dance by the students. Later, a skit was staged in which the process of waste management was splendidly elaborated. Forms of solid waste management were explained with a power point presentation. 

Anita Gomes, an executive co-ordinator of the International Institute for Public Policy introduced the chief guest. Dr Devi Prabha Alva welcomed the gathering and Anjali Rao compered the programme. Rashmita proposed the vote of thanks.

    What a fine performance from the St. Agnes girls under the direction of Lady Devi Prabha. The msg on Waste Management control and all the future precautions to save this beautiful planet was well displayed by the young and energetic ladies of St. Agnes. The entire program was well conducted and I was truly privileged to be present in Mangaore to share the joy of St. Agnes along with Sr. Supriya and also Sr. Olivia. Long live St. Agnes College and the exemplary nuns who are doing so much for the cause of education in Mangalore.

    Thaank you to St Agnes students for their efforts. Might I also suggest that they take the lead and adopt a part of the city that is prone to litter, and do a clean up of the area on a weekly basis. This might encourage other schools and colleges to do the same, as well as educate the public at large on keep Mother India clean and proud !
