Udupi, Sep 15: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar, said that in politics, he had an association lasting 42 years with Oscar Fernandes. "I had been associated with him since the time he was the national council member of the student unit. I used to visit Udupi often specifically to meet Oscar," he recalled.
He was speaking to the media persons after paying respects to the mortal remains of the stalwart on Tuesday September 14.
Shivakumar said that Oscar was identified as a national level leader because of his honesty and loyalty to the leadership of the party. "His unique quality was that he gave equal respect even to young people and his juniors. He was like a political link between the central and state leaderships and his demise is a great loss to the national politics," he felt.
