Mangalore: ‘Karantha Puraskara’ Conferred on Amrut Someshwar

Mangalore, Oct 11: ‘Karantha Puraskara’ was conferred on renowned litterateur, Prof Amrut Someshwar, at a function organized at Town Hall in the city on the occasion of the birth anniversary of multi-faceted personality, the late Dr Shivaram Karanth, on Sunday October 10.

 

The programme was inaugurated by president of Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, Kumble Sundar Rao. In his address, he hailed the contributions made by Jnan Pith award winner, Dr Karanth, to various fields.

Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, S Pradip Kumar Kalkura, delivered the introductory address.

Speaking after accepting the honour, Someshwar stressed for the need to undertake an exhaustive study of all the works authored by the late Karanth. He felt that this would be the right way to pay our tributes to this great soul. He hailed the late Karanth as a person who loved life and nature with the depths of his heart,  and fought against injustices and got involved with many activities and left his memorable imprints in all of them. “Karanth was a powerful, deep personality like the sea,” he said.

Veteran scholar, Erya Lakshminarayan Alva, presided. Registrar of Mangalore University, Chinnappa Gowda, district information officer, Rohini and others were present.
