Hassan, Sep 11: A group of people, said to be the Sangh Parivar activists, manhandled the police sub-inspector (SI) during the immersion ceremony of Ganesha idol at Sakleshpur on Friday September 10. A video clip relating to the incident has gone viral on social websites.
Ganeshotsava had been organized on Friday in Sakleshpur jointly by the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad. A group of people, during the immersion ceremony, were seen participating in the procession, duly dancing to the accompaniment musical instruments in violation of Covid guidelines without wearing masks and without maintaining social distance. The group was also seen blocking the traffic.
When the town police sub-inspector, Basavaraj Chincholli, tried to convince the members in the procession to stick to the Covid guidelines, Raghu, said to be the state Bajrang Dal convener, and some others behaved rudely with the police sub-inspector. The gang argued with the sub-inspector and also heaved and pushed him around.
There has been general resentment for the behaviour of the Sangh Parivar activists during the procession where they were expected to respect Covid guidelines and follow the police instructions.
