Radha Nayak Govt High School Readies for Volleyball Tourney

The final preparations are underway for hosting the Mysore divisional primary and high school students’ volleyball tournament at Radha Nayak Government High School, Ennehole, near here. The tourney will be held on Saturday October 9 and Sunday October 10.
 
Altogether 32 teams from eight districts under Mysore division will participate in the tourney. The teams from Mysore, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya arrived at the school on Friday October 8.  Other teams will arrive shortly. 

The teams from neighbouring districts will arrive on Saturday October 9.  Teams from Dakshina Kannada (DK), Udupi, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Mysore, Hassan, Chikmagalur, and Kodagu will participate in the divisional volleyball tourney. 
 
The tourney has been jointly organized by Udupi district administration, Udupi zilla panchayat, public instruction department and Radha Nayak Education Trust, Ennehole.
 
State minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the volleyball tourney at 2.00 pm on Saturday October 9.
 
MLA H Gopal Bhandary will preside over the inaugural programme.

Udupi–Chikmagalur MP D V Sadananda Gowda will be the guests of honour. 
 
The people’s representatives, DK and Udupi MLAs, and deputy commissioner Hemalata will also attend the event.
 
The valedictory ceremony will be held here at 3.00 pm on Sunday October 10.
 
The final touches to the preparations were done by the welcome committee with Radha Nayak Education Trust honorary chairman Daya Nayak and government officials.
 
A state-level primary and high school volleyball tourney was held here under the leadership of Daya Nayak in 2005.  India’s former cricketer Sayyed Kirmani, movie actor Sudeep, and others attended the programme.  The local TV channels had telecast the live coverage of the tourney. 
 
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, popular actors Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, and other celebrities attended the programme.
 

Location of Ennehole:
 
Ennehole lies in Karkala taluk of Udupi district.  It’s located just 11 kms along the Karkala–Agumbe Road.  It is 36 kms from Udupi, 56 kms from Mangalore, 65 kms from Dharmasthala, and 22 kms from Hebri.  Radhabai Government High School is located just 1.2 kms away from Ennehole town.  The tourney will be held on the newly-developed playground that will provide a platform for the players to compete in district, state, and international tourneys.  The trainers and physical training instructors who are accompanying the teams from various districts are busy devising tactics that will fetch them victory.  The welcome committee office-bearers Pushparaj Hegde, Ramakrishna Hegde, Dolphy Quadros, Jayaraj Hegde, Madhav Upahyaya, Shekar Ajekar, school teaching staff, and student leaders are busy with the preparations for the tourney for over a week.
 
The seating arrangements have been made and there are separate venues for programmes and the tourney as well as a flood-lit facility.  Registration centers are being set up on the campus under the leadership of Udupi district physical education superintendent Basavaraj, assisted by teachers Sadanand Nayak, Ramdas Nayak, and Kalidas.
 
The eight-member crew of cooks led by Rajendra is busy preparing Jain style vegetarian food for the players and accompanying staff from Friday. 
 
 
Brief history of Radha Government High School, Ennehole:
 
It is the dream child of Mumbai super cop Daya Nayak, a native of Ennehole, and was inaugurated on January 16, 2002. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, international artist M F Hussain, union law minister M Veerappa Moily, former state education minister H Vishwanath, MLA H Gopal Bhandary, and Sandhya Pai, daily editor, ‘Taranga’, and other dignitaries were present during the inaugural programme.
