Mangalore, Oct 6: A programme to celebrate the 109th birth anniversary of Dr Shivaram Karanth will be held in Town Hall here at 5 pm on Sunday October 10, under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kannada and culture department, and Kalkura Foundation.
Minister, Krishna J Palemar, is scheduled to inaugurate the programme. Well-known scholar, Erya Lakshminarayan Alva, will preside. On this occasion, ‘Karantha Puraskara’ will be extended to veteran litterateur, Prof Amrut Someshwar, informed Kalkura Foundation and district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Pradip Kumar Kalkura. He was addressing a press conference held here on Tuesday October 5.
MLA, Yogish Bhat, will be handing over prizes to the winners of the ‘Karanth in Postcard’ contest. Yakshana Academy president, Kumble Sundar Rao, will be giving away prizes to the winners of essay contest on Karanth.
A Yakshangana performance in Tenkutittu style will be presented by the children at 2.30 pm on the same day. Krishna Yaji and his team will enact a Yakshangana episode in Badagutittu style, ‘Jambavati Kalyana’ at 6.30 pm, he disclosed.
