Mangaluru, Sep 3: The NSS team of The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM) conducted a guesttalk on 'NSS and Community outreach'. In association with IQAC on September 1, 2021, from 2:30-3:30 PM (IST) for NSS volunteers through Google meets with a total number of 85 participants.
The session commenced with an enlightening keynote address given by the principal of YIASCM, Dr Parvadhavardhini Gopalakrishnan where she gave an insightof the topic. The session continued with student Priya NSS team leader from II BCom (CACS) who introduced the guest talk’s eminent speaker Nelvita Cleona Narhona assistant professor, SDM Law College Mangaluru.
She described the motto of NSS 'Not Me But You', reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students' development and appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
She explained the various activities of the NSS like national integration camp, immunization, blood donation, planting trees, disaster management, providing medical facilities to villages. She also suggested the students to take initiative to conduct counselling session in their area to those who suffering in current pandemics and help them to come in normal life. Lastly, the session concluded with a Q&A round, where the students and the speaker discussed various queries and a humble vote of thanks was given by student Dhanyashree (I BSc Forensic Science).
Overall, the guest talk was extremely informative and interactive which helped students increase their knowledge on community outreach.
