Mangalore United Emerge KPL Champions

Bangalore, Sep 30: Mangalore United team, which exhibited allround performance in the finals of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) match held at Bangalore on Wednesday September 29, succeeded in bagging the champion’s trophy for the first time since the inception of KPL last year. It humbled Provident Bangalore team, which had won the KPL championship in the inaugural year, by 44 runs.
The second finals of KPL proved to be a game of bowlers. Mangalore United, which batted first, compiled 112 runs for nine wickets in 20 years. The Bangalore team, which hoped to easily humble its rivals, submitted meekly by losing all its wickets for 68 runs. Spinners, Udit Patel (4 for 11) and Karun Nair (4 for 12), crafted the victory of the Mangalore team. Karun Nair also excelled with the bat, scoring 21 invaluable runs for his team.
The Bangalore team, which started its hunt in all earnestness with openers, Tilak Naidu and Manjunath scoring 22 and 14 runs respectively, lost wickets thereafter at regular intervals. Karun Nair, based on his all-round performance, was adjudged Man of the Match. Mayank Agarwal was declared the Man of the Series.
In the semi finals, the Mangalore team had defeated Davangere team by 44 runs on Wednesday morning. Davangere, which got a challenge of scoring 202 for an outright win, could muster only 157 runs for the loss of all its wickets. Bangalore Provident team had defeated Malnad Gladiators in the other semi final match, by six wickets, by reaching the target of 158 runs in 17.2 overs.
