Kundapur, Apr 28: The duo of Aditi Acharya and Alina from Mangaluru emerged victorious at the Alfred D’Souza Memorial Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Inter-District Badminton Championship, organized by Costa Badminton Centre, Kundapur.
The two-day championship, held at the state-of-the-art Costa Badminton Centre, saw Aditi and Alina defeat Priya and Ramya to secure the women’s doubles title. Their experience and coordination were evident as they dominated the final match.


























In the men’s 85+ doubles category, Pratap and Pradeep overcame Satish and Chetan from Sringeri to clinch the title.
In the men’s open doubles division, Udupi’s Pramod and Shashank outplayed the Kundapur duo of Chetan and Karthik, winning the championship along with a cash prize.
In the under-13 boys’ singles, Ishan Hegde secured the title, with Ayaan finishing as runner-up. In the under-13 boys’ doubles, Yash Nithin Jadhav and Ayaan triumphed over Shayan and Melron Costa of Costa Badminton Centre. In the under-15 boys’ singles, Gaurav from Mangaluru emerged victorious, while Rensil finished as runner-up. Gaurav and Rensil also clinched the under-15 boys’ doubles title, with Elden and Aditi finishing as runners-up.
The championship was held in memory of Alfred D’Souza, a well-known sports promoter from Kundapur. The event was inaugurated by Fr Albert Crasta, parish priest of St Pius Church, Hanglur-Aral Gudde. Lecturer Sharmila Menezes spoke about the life and contributions of Alfred D’Souza.
Costa Badminton Centre’s head coach Somanna Nanjappa honoured the guests. Dencil D’Souza, wife of the late Alfred D’Souza, and Sohan D’Souza distributed prizes to the winners. Cosses D’Costa, Wilfred D’Souza, and Sophia D’Souza were present as chief guests. Costa Badminton Centre’s administrator Nidhish Acharya proposed the vote of thanks.
