Mangalore, Sep 29: The Father Muller College, department of speech and hearing has organized a free camp on speech and hearing tests and evaluation in Fuller Muller Hospital to mark International Hearing Impaired Week starting from Tuesday September 28 to Thursday September 30 from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
Arun Furtado, district social welfare officer inaugurated the camp on Tuesday. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCI presided.
Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator, FMMC, Fr Richard Coelho, administrator, FMCH, Dr J P Alva, Dr Sanjeev Rai, Dr Joshua, Akhilesh, Anil and Anurudeen among others were present.
In the camp that is being held at Medical College Hospital out patient department, department of speech amd hearing, a free evaluation will be done for the individuals having hearing loss caused by noise pollution, aging, diabetes and ear discharge among others with advanced instruments and results, information on modern and improved hearing aids will be given along with evaluation and counseling for the problems found in children like stuttering, misarticulation and learning disabilities among others.
The department of speech and hearing in Father Muller Hospital is being run since 35 years and the success marked the beginning a College of Speech and Hearing four years ago.
Among the senses, the sense of hearing is one of the important one. Hearing, Speech & Language
plays an equally important role in order to lead a happy and contended life. In the same way, problems
with hearing can also lead to problems in speech and language.
In this regard, Father Muller College, department of speech and hearing has been equipped with the state-of-the-art facility for speech and hearing tests. Problems of speech and hearing are most common in the society. It is important to make the people aware of the same problems to prevent the same.
