Mangaluru, Aug 16: The flag hoisting ceremony began at 9:15 am on the grounds of St Ann's PU College, with pride and reverence. Sr Julie Anne AC, one of the provincial councillors, Karnataka Province was the chief guest for the programme. Sr Maria Shubha AC, the secretary of the Apostolic Educational Society and Sr Marie Lucy AC, the joint secretary of St Ann's Institutions and the superior of St Ann's convent were the guests of honour. The principal of St Ann's PU College, the heads of sister institutions, the sisters of St Ann's and Ashaniketan, the candidates, the staff and students of St Ann's Campus were present on the occasion.
The programme began with a prayer song followed by Welcome address by Reena D'Almeida. The chief guest hoisted the flag. National Anthem was sung with full patriotic spirit, saluting the flag.
The chief guest in her address said that though India has gained freedom, the women and children of our country are not safe. She urged the people to work towards building a better nation. The programme concluded with a patriotic song.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Rolita D'souza, and the programme was compered by Pranitha Pinto.
On the occasion of Independence day the following competitions were held online for the students of second PUC. Tricolour rangoli , patriotic singing and elocution competitions were conducted for the students.
Results of the competition:
In Tricolour Rangoli, Vaibhavi M Rao of II PCMB bagged the first place while Preethi of II PCMB bagged the second place. In Elocution, Aysha Suzna of II ESBA won the first place while Preethi of II PCMB won the second place. In Patriotic Singing, Vaibhavi M Rao of II PCMB bagged the first place and Prinisha D Souza from II ESBA took the second place.
