Udupi, Aug 4: Zilla panchayat (ZP) chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Naveen Bhat, has issued instructions to shift all the coronavirus infected people to Covid care centres and treat them there. He said that this helps in breaking the chain of passing on infection.
He was speaking after presiding over a meeting about Covid19 control measures held on Tuesday August 3 at the auditorium of the deputy commissioner's office. "In all the taluks, Covid care centres equipped with all basic facilities should be set up. Necessary doctors, nurses and other staff should be deployed in a need-based manner," he stated.
Dr Bhat said that the district health and family welfare officer has been instructed to perform over 5,000 tests in the district every day. He said that instructions will be issued to gram panchayats seeking their support for these tests. He added that those arriving by trains from other states including Maharashtra and Kerala should produce RT-PCR negative reports that are not older than 72 hours. "People arriving without such certificates should be subjected to Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) on the spot," he clarified.
The CEO further instructed the concerned to seal down the residences of Covid infected people without fail and to declare areas having more than five cases as containment zones and to keep close watch on them. He also said that to combat the possible third wave, it is necessary to reserve a thousand beds.
"In rural areas, task force committees should function effectively and take measures to control the spread of coronavirus infection. The village accountants, panchayat development officers and the police should extend help to ASHA and Anganwadi workers to shift infected people to Covid care centres," he instructed.
He asked the tahsildars and taluk panchayat executive officers to conduct daily meetings at the taluk level to discuss the current situation and measures to control the infection. Steps should be taken to avoid crowding at the vaccination centres, he said.
District health and family welfare officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa, additional superintendent of police Kumar Chandra, tahsildar Pradeep S Kurdekar, Kundapur sub-divisional officer Raju and district level officials were present.
