Kuruba seers in Karnataka lobby for deputy chief minister's post for Eshwarappa

Bengaluru, Jul 29 (IANS): Nearly a dozen seers from the Kuruba (shepherd) community on Thursday appealed to the BJP high command to appoint veteran saffron party leader in the state, K.S. Eshwarappa, as the Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) in the newly sworn-in Karnataka cabinet led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Kuruba is the third biggest community in the state after the politically dominant Lingayat and Vokkaliga, forming nearly 8 per cent of the state's population.

Nearly a dozen Kuruba seers from north Karnataka region, led by Sri Shantamaya Revanasiddeshwara Swamiji, told reporters that the Kuruba community is spread over a large area, from Bidar district in the north of the state to Chamarajnagar district in the south, and Eshwarappa along with former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had worked equally hard to build the BJP's base in the state.

"Ideally, Eshwarappa should have replaced Yediyurappa, going by his seniority and given his contributions to the party in the state. But with the BJP central leadership choosing another Lingayat to replace him (Yediyurappa), Eshwarappa should at least be made the Deputy Chief Minister in the new dispensation," the seers demanded.

Another Kuruba seer, Siddayogi Amareshwara Maharaj of Hanamapura Matha, said, "When Yediyurappa was working to unite his community with the BJP, Eshwarappa was working hard to unite the Kurbas across the state. The BJP should not treat Eshwarappa in an unfair manner."

Sri Malingaraya Maharaj of Hulajanti Matha said that the BJP should have made Eshwarappa the Chief Minister at least once, given that his contemporary (Yediyurappa) got four chances at the helm of the state and was even allowed to choose his successor.

During the interaction with the media that lasted for over 90 minutes, the seers highlighted Eshwarappa's contributions to the BJP's rise in the state.

High time, we should unite and have a separate state for DK, Udupi, UK districts etc. The reason is not only because we are neglected in terms of politics, but also for our own development. Today our Mangaluru International Airport is being neglected (Kerala already built good airport at Kannur and lot of passengers using the same). Mangaluru Railway station should have been created a new railway zone which would have created lot of employment opportunities for locals and would have helped in overall rail development, however unfortunately we are still under a zone in Kerala. Only thing is we have a good port NMPT and only coastal cities Mangaluru, Udupi and Karwar can have one. Otherwise that also would have moved to some other city within Karnataka. Lot of other developmental activities are still pending like International Cricket Stadium, good private bus stands in coastal cities etc. If we have separate state, we can develop faster.

If he fought for the cause of Backwards ,minorities and Dalits, they would have been stand behind him.But whenever open his mouth he is attackeing Minorities and only his duty is Padapooje of Swamijis upcource everybody doing. He would have been the backward class leader if he take along with him Billavas, Eidigas, Mogaveeras , Devanagas and other backward class , Minorities and Dalits autometically Party High command would have taken serious abovet him.Now Nalin Kumar s audio says he is date expired Leader dont have any command over his section.Hence he is out

OUR DEMOCRACY DERIVED MORE FROM USA --- one key factor is -SEPARATION CHURCH / STATE -- THE FOUNDING FATHERS / + JEFFERSON-- ADVOCATED -- THAT ---------religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. SO all these are not healthy precedents - lingayat - kurubas - etc -etc -- we are supposed to be moving more to a Egalitarian society and already 70 years since independence--cannot get out of the shackles- politics has played a dangerous cocktail - caste - ethnicity - sects - Backward - OBC - etc etc OF COURSE THE RULING DISPENSATION HAS TRIGGERED THIS WITH A NEEDLESS RISE IN UTTAR PRADESH --

aithappa moolya, manglaore... Your idea may not be good because, in Karavali Naadu, Bunts and Billavas start dominating. I fear your idea will leave this country at least into one lakh states.. Meantime, coastal Karnataka always progressed despite not having much political representation from CM and PM. See the neighboring districts such as Hassan and Chikmaglur afre still ailing, though their representatives (Indira Gandhi and Devegowda) become PM

If Kurubas whole heartedly support Eshwarappa, he would have been CM today. But Kurubas seems to be confused whom to support between Eshwarappa or Siddaramaiah...

Eshwarappa will never be made the CM because of his caste!!! BJP is for the upper castes, Kurubas will have to simply vote and forget. It is the congress which uplifted the lower, suppressed and backward castes and gave them a voice. Unfortunately the present generation does not know much about it. BJP was and is against Indira Gandhi and her clan because of this. Before all these low caste people were not allowed to enter temples, hotels and even the residential compounds of upper castes.

Trend is BJPs gift to Karnataka politics...A day will come seers of all groups of Hindu dub castes and others like Jain, Christian, Muslim heads will demand postings for their candidates.Where is the end to this. Better dissolve Karnataka assembly forthwith and go for fresh mandate along with all religious heads.

If these demands are met, each state will have least 10 Dy Chief Minister and India will have a dozen Dy PM's. How silly it is for these leaders to ask for political shareholding.
